First,
go shopping! You've got decisions to make and things to buy!
Decide
on the pattern and colors you wish to use. If this is your first
attempt, choose a design that is simple in design - where the appliqué
is not too intricate. This will give you a chance to develop your appliqué
skills, stitching long straight and gently curved "runs".
Buy
the best quality fabrics and thread you can afford You will be investing
a lot of time and effort in the making of you Hawaiian-style masterpiece.
By the time you're finished, you'll want it to last a lifetime...maybe
longer.
As
you decide to do more quilting, slowly build up your quality quilting
accessories - needles, pins, marking pencils, scissors, quilting
hoops, etc.
When
choosing the fabric colors for your first masterpiece, use contrasting
colors for the design appliqué and background. You could
use any color on a white or off-white background, a dark and light hue of the same
color, or prints and solids together. There is no right or wrong choice. Your
backing fabric can be the same as your background or appliqué or
a coordinating print. Whatever your choice, have fun!
