How is it possible that such a quilting site can be developed when no one really quilts you may ask. Well, each of us has our own special talents that when combined, stirred around, and left to settle just happened to all fall into place.
Elizabeth, who does know how to quilt but does not fancy herself a quilter is happier designing them. Knowing the basics makes her designs work. Too, having an idea a minute means that once the bad, silly and unlikely are discarded - some spring forth that are actually workable.
Tammy, author in her own right and delightful artist is easy to work with, has superb ideas and adds her wonderful sense of style and humor to the drawings and borders and tidbits you will see throughout this site. Finding her was definitely worth the wait and we've had fun creating this evolving project.
We've worked hard to put this website together. We hope that you will enjoy visiting with us often, watch us evolve through time, participate and make it one of those "get away" sites where you can learn and share and create friendships and wonderful Hawaiian quilt masterpieces.

Elizabeth Root, born and raised in Hawaii, has been designing Hawaiian quilts for the past 20 years. Her
work is internationally known and her original designs are in myriad private collections around the world. In the early 80's her company published "Hawaiian Designin' Quarterly" which helped to spread the art of Hawaiian quilting to thousands of subscribers and subsequently led to her company publishing over a dozen books of her own work and that of other designers in Hawaiian quilting and counted cross stitch.
Her store "Elizabeth's Fancy" in Kailua, Oahu became a "must" destination for residents and visitors. It show-cased her Hawaiian-style quilts and hundreds of private label products bearing her designs - many of which, were wholesaled throughout Hawaii.
Elizabeth lives on windward Oahu with 7 rescued cats and numerous range chickens, amidst spectacular scenery and flower gardens from which her designs flow.

Tammy Yee is the author and illustrator of over a dozen children's books. A self-taught artist and former pediatric
nurse, Tammy was born and raised in Honolulu where she spent many happy hours exploring the island's tide pools and streams. Her childhood home was always filled with a
variety of aquariums, home-made bug boxes and kiddy pools, all filled with an assortment of fish, lizards, bugs, frogs and turtles.
Today she is the busy mother of two energetic boys who besiege her with requests for drawings and tall tales. Years of "story time" with the boys has evolved into a career writing and illustrating children's picture books, which often reflect her love for nature. Her first hardcover, "Baby Honu's Incredible Journey" has been on the Honolulu
Star-Bulletin's best seller List for the past four years.
She keeps herself busy playing with Legos, catching bugs in the shadow of the Koolau range of windward Oahu, searching for the perfect tide pool and, of course, telling more stories.
Tammy also has a fascinating and fun website that every child (and child at heart) should visit as it's continually updated with fun things to do - after tested and approved by her two
young sons. You can see it at www.TammyYee.com.

Unfortunately, nothing remains constant and Tammy has moved on to bigger and more exciting projects. She is sorely missed but she has left her imprint forever with her wonderful illustrations for us all to enjoy.
